Success – in whose eyes?

He has shown you, O man, what is good.  And what does the Lord require of you?  To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.  Micah 6:8 (NIV)

We live in a world that expects people to be self-confident and to show determination in all aspects of life.  From business to home life people are told that they must stand up for their rights and this means people are often only concerned with looking after number one.

This verse from Micah reminds us that God does not look at the external characteristics so prized by society; God values humility.  I often wonder what it means to ‘… walk humbly with your God’.  If anything it must mean doing things that please God and things that will often surprise those around us.  It must also mean that we are aware of our real value in God’s eyes and as a result not putting too much emphasis on status, wealth and the other things by which society judges success.

Every blessing
