How God sees prayer

And when he had taken it, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of God’s people.  Revelation‬ ‭5‬:‭8‬ (NIV)

People often give up praying because they don’t see an answer to their prayers and become discouraged.  What they are doing is seeing prayer from their own perspective.

Would our attitude to prayer be different if we could see things from God’s perspective?

The verse quoted above from Revelation 5:8 tells us that the prayers of God’s people are like ‘incense’ to God.  God does not undervalue prayer.  The imagery used would indicate that God prizes prayer.

What does the word ‘incense’ conjure up in your mind?  What the verse seems to be telling us is that to God, the prayers of his people ‘smell sweet’.  Image that, he finds our prayers ‘sweet’.  Take encouragement from this and don’t give up praying.

Every blessing
