I Declare … God Declares

You have declared this day that the Lord is your God and that you will walk in obedience to him, that you will keep his decrees, commands and laws – that you will listen to him.  And the Lord has declared this day that you are his people, his treasured possession as he promised, and that you are to keep all his commands.  He has declared that he will set you in praise, fame and honour high above all the nations he has made and that you will be a people holy to the Lord your God, as he promised.
‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭26:17-19‬ ‭(NIV)

A covenant relationship has two parties to it.  When you commit your life to Christ you are declaring to God and to the world that you have decided to follow Jesus.  This means that you will obey him, and listen to him (in seeking his guidance for your life).

As part of the covenant, God also declares his part of the promise.  He declares that you are his man or woman, his treasured possession and holy unto him.  Have you ever thought of yourself as God’s man or woman?  Do you see yourself as a treasured possession?  God does!  Knowing how God sees you should give you a correct perspective.

Many people decide to follow Christ, but their perspective is still skewed by their former life.  They remain conscious of their sin to a degree that they doubt that they are Christ’s at all.  What this does is to focus attention on us and what we think we need to do to earn salvation, rather than on what God has achieved through the death and resurrection of his Son.  Thankfully Christ has paid the full price for our sin, so there is nothing we can do to earn his salvation.

In Christ you are a new creation, forgiven and redeemed.

Every blessing
