The Word is very near you

Now what I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach.  It is not up in heaven, so that you have to ask, ‘Who will ascend into heaven to get it and proclaim it to us so that we may obey it?’  Nor is it beyond the sea, so that you have to ask, ‘Who will cross the sea to get it and proclaim it to us so that we may obey it?’  No, the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so that you may obey it.
‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭30:11-14‬ ‭(NIV)

Christianity can be sometimes be presented as too difficult (full of trials and tribulations), or as too easy (all your problems will disappear).  However, neither of these two extremes is true.  Both contain an element of truth, but not the whole truth.

Of course, life isn’t always kind and in Christ we have to be reliant on him no matter what life throws at us.  The New Testament teaches clearly that persecution and hardship are to be expected, yet none of this is undertaken in our own strength.

The other extreme, which we sometimes hear, is the idea that when you commit your life to Christ all your problems (physical or material) will disappear.  Let’s be honest that for some life will continue much the same as before – they may not see any improvement in their health, or they may still be in debt.

What make the difference?  Look again at the words of Deuteronomy 30:14

… the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so that you may obey it.

The indwelling of God’s Holy Spirit is what makes the difference.  Living in Christ will neither be too difficult, nor too easy.  Let the Holy Spirit teach and instruct you through your reading of the Bible.  Let God’s Word go from being near you, to being in your mouth, to finally being in your heart.

Every blessing

The purpose of this blog is to encourage others to read the Bible on a regular basis and to discover that God's Word applies to daily life. I will generally publish posts and a Verse for the Day alternately.
