And when he prayed to him, the LORD was moved by his entreaty and listened to his plea; so he brought him back to Jerusalem and to his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the LORD is God.
2 Chronicles 33:13 (NIV)
Read: 2 Chronicles 33
Consider: We know that Manassah and the people of Judah had many opportunities to turn back to God, but chose to do otherwise. In 2 Chronicles 33:10-11 it is recorded that
The LORD spoke to Manasseh and his people, but they paid no attention. So the LORD brought against them the army commanders of the king of Assyria, who took Manasseh prisoner, put a hook in his nose, bound him with bronze shackles and took him to Babylon.
Having turned away from God they suffered the consequences when they were conquered and Manassah was taken captive to Babylon. However, God didn’t turn his back on Manassah and when Manassah prayed and humbled himself, God listened:
In his distress he sought the favour of the LORD his God and humbled himself greatly before the God of his ancestors. 2 Chronicles 33:12.
Sometimes it is only something dramatic that will bring a person to their senses and back to God.
Pray: Father, we pray for those who you have been calling but who choose to ignore you. May your Holy Spirit open their eyes to the truth. Amen
