In the beginning God

imageIn the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning – the sixth day.
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭1:1, 31‬ ‭(NIV)

Read:  Genesis 1

Consider: The Bible starts with the words ‘In the beginning God …’

Many people reading Genesis 1 would like to get into a discussion about the actuality and processes of creation.  That is not the point of Genesis 1.  It’s main purpose is to reveal to us that everything starts with God.  If you start anywhere else, you will have a skewed view of why we are on this planet.

Next time you are in a discussion with someone about any contentious issue, keep asking yourself where is there a place for God in this matter.  If there is no place for God, then it would be right to presume that our (or the other person’s) understanding is wrong.  God being there at the beginning means that everything then and now flows from him.

Throughout the Bible God’s plan of salvation is revealed, sometimes in glimpses, sometimes very overtly. Keeping this truth in mind helps us to understand the Bible.  It also puts things into perspective.

Pray:  Lord, you are the beginning of all things.  May we see that what you created was and still is very good, although it has been tainted by sin.  Amen

Every blessing
