The sword is coming!

But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet to warn the people and the sword comes and takes someone’s life, that person’s life will be taken because of their sin, but I will hold the watchman accountable for their blood.  Ezekiel 33:6 (NIV)

Consider:  The following post was previously published on 21st February 2015, under the title ‘Are you a watchman?’

When I became a Christian I set myself the task of reading through the whole Bible.  I can still remember when I first read the verses in Ezekiel 3 and 33 that mention the watchman.

As a young Christian I was struck with the implication for me as an individual in sharing my faith with others.  If I can see the danger people are in, facing eternity without God, I have a responsibility to sound a warning to alert them to the danger.  If I keep quiet, people may be lost to eternity.  If I sound a warning (share my faith), I don’t know if they will heed the warning or not.  But I must warn them!

So what makes me want to share my faith?  Is it that I dread God holding me accountable?  Actually, no!  What makes me want to share my faith is that I ‘… see the sword coming …’ and if I don’t warn people they may be lost.

I pray that God may give each of us a heart burdened for humanity, that sees the dire straits mankind is in.  I pray also that each of us will have the courage to sound the warning.

Pray:  Father, may we fully appreciate the lostness of mankind and the remedy you have provided in Jesus.  Let the reality of an eternity without you motivate us to share the good news with others.  Amen

Every blessing
