I will … give him a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to the one who receives it. Revelation 21:7 (NIV)
The names our parents gave us at birth may have a meaning. We may even be surprised that our given name can actually match our character, some aspect of our personality or even our physical attributes.
If God was to give you a new name, what would it be? Perhaps our new name will match some aspect of how we put our faith into action – ‘Encourager”, ‘Leader”, ‘Helper’, or even ‘Servant’. Alternatively, our new name might match how we have sought to get to know God – ‘Seeker of Righteousness’, ‘Prayer’, or ‘Faithful One’.
Whatever the new name we are given, we can be sure that God has matched it to what he sees in our hearts.
I will write on him the name of my God and the name of the city of my God … I will also write on him my new name. Revelation 3:12 (NIV)
