‘The Spirit of the Lord rests on him – the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the Lord – and he will delight in the fear of the Lord. He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes, or decide by what he hears with his ears …’ Isaiah 11:2-3 (NIV)
This is a wonderful description of Christ. He looks upon the heart, rather than the outward appearance. It is also a picture of what the Christian should be like. Of course we have to see and hear; however, our decisions should not be based on that basis alone. Additionally, we should use the gift of discernment to understand what is in a person’s heart, bust also what is in the heart of God.
