Knowing God

imageMy ears had heard of you but now my eyes have seen you.
‭‭Job‬ ‭42:5‬ ‭(NIV)

Read: Job 42

Consider:  Job acknowledged the difference between hearing about God and seeing him.  The difference was that the experience he had of God became much more personal.

As I have gone through life, I have met many people who obviously have heard much about God, but who don’t appear to have any personal relationship with him.  At one level they seem to know a lot, but at another level their faith is paper-thin.  So if the difference is moving from ‘hearing’ to ‘seeing’ how can this happen?

Firstly, it needs a movement of the Holy Spirit in a person’s life to enable them to see and understand exactly who God is and what Christ has done for them in his work of redemption on the cross.  When this has happened then the relationship needs to be worked at.

No-one would be surprised if I told them to spend more time with their spouse so as to build the relationship.  However, many people find it hard to accept that knowing God can only be achieved by spending time with him.  This involves Bible study and prayer.  Meditating on (thinking about) what you read in the Bible, noting anything that strikes you also helps in this process of knowing God.

Pray:  Father, encourage us to spend more time in your presence.  Open up our minds to see and understand what we read in the Bible.  Amen

Every blessing
