You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everyone. You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts. 2 Corinthians 3:2-3 (NIV)
When people ‘read’ your life, what does it tell them about you? In 2 Corinthians 3 Paul uses the analogy of a letter to get his readers to think about the message their lives give to those around them.
We are so used to getting junk mail, that occasionally you see signs saying ‘No Junk Mail’ on people’s homes or mailboxes.
Paul talks about the Corinthians lives being ‘… known and read by everyone’. Be in no doubt that your life can either speak of Christ (royal mail) or speak of the world (junk mail).
When Paul says: ‘You show that you are a letter from Christ …’ he is again referring to how their lives speak to those around them. Don’t forget that in 1 Corinthians Paul had to confront the church with some aspects of their witness that did not bring glory to God. Here he is encouraging them to live in a way that reflects Christ in their homes and communities.
So my question to you is: Are you royal mail or junk mail to those around you?
