Seeing is believing?

Even after Jesus had performed so many signs in their presence, they still would not believe in him.
‭‭John‬ ‭12:37‬ ‭(NIV)

Jesus wasn’t short of followers who were fascinated by the things he said and did.  However, despite people seeing the miracles (signs) he performed, there were some who would not believe in him.

We could understand it if these were people who heard about the miracles second-hand, but John 12:37 tells us that Jesus performed many miracles ‘in their presence’.  These were people who had been there and seen it for themselves.  Despite witnessing it first-hand, they still refused to believe who he was.  The phrase used is that they ‘… still would not believe in him’.  It wasn’t the first time they had seen what Jesus was doing.

Think of the signs Jesus performed.  There were healings, control over nature, raising of the dead and release from demon-possession.  Now ask yourself – what were these people looking for in the Messiah that they refused to believe who Jesus was?

You probably have friends or family who you have shared the gospel with over many years and you may even have had an opportunity to go over Bible passages with them.  They may have shown an interest, but still they are held back from making a decision to follow Christ.  Don’t be discouraged by this.  Keep sharing the message of repentance and forgiveness, asking God that they may one day see and believe.

Evey blessing
