Waiting!

… they soon forgot what he had done and did not wait for his plan to unfold.  Psalm 106:13 (NIV)

The story of the people of Israel, as recorded in the Bible, is one of them seeking God, being blessed by him and then them forgetting what he had done and turning their backs on him.  This repeats itself throughout the Old Testament.  The verse above from Psalm 106 tells us that the Isrealites ‘soon’ forgot what God has done.  Human nature being what it is we are prone to forget things and over time our memories let us down as we forget many important things.  We could forgive the people of Isreal for forgetting, but forgetting ‘soon’?

The second part of the verse says that they ‘… did not wait for his plan to unfold‘. God revealed his plan to the Israelites, yet despite this they wouldn’t wait for it to be fulfilled.  Why?  Perhaps impatience; perhaps unbelief; perhaps thinking what they had was all God wanted to reveal to them.

Are you in a situation where you believe God has revealed his will and plan to you, yet despite this you are finding it hard to ‘wait’ for his plan to unfold?  The word ‘unfold’ in my mind conjures up a picture of a map being unfolded.  Sheet by sheet things become clearer and the map only makes sense when it is fully unfolded.

The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. 2 Peter 3:9 (NIV)

Don’t give up waiting for God’s plan to be fulfilled in you.  Don’t lose the excitement you have for what God is doing in your life.  Let God ‘unfold’ his plan sheet by sheet, piece by piece until it is fully revealed.
