Cast all your anxiety on him, for he cares for you.

Consider: It is easy to say to someone “Don’t worry, it’ll be alright”. Yet why is it often hard to keep yourself from worrying, sometimes about things that you can’t actually control? Today’s reading in 1 Peter mentions that we should ‘cast’ all our anxiety on God. What does ‘cast all your anxiety on him’ mean?
In this case ‘cast’ is likely to mean ‘casting off or out’. This involves physically getting rid of the anxiety and the acceptance of the cares by someone (God), who is both willing and able to deal with them.
An alternative meaning for ‘cast’ refers to being ‘poured into a mould’. Although this is not the exact meaning in this verse, it does conjure up an interesting picture of being poured into God and the conscious act of being willing to be poured. Once poured into God, it would mean taking on the shape of the mould; in this case the shape of the mould is God. This may seem farfetched, but in Genesis we read: So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them (Genesis 1:27). Being originally created in God’s image, it is reasonable to assume that sin mars that image and once we accept forgiveness and reconciliation in Christ, we start to take on God’s image more and more. In Paul’s letter to the Romans we read: Do not conform to the pattern [mould] of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind (Romans 12:2a). In Colossians we read: Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things (Colossians 3:2).
If something crops up in your life that you begin to worry about, take it to God in prayer and leave it there.
Pray: Father, when we have a tendency to worry, draw us back into harmony with you so that our thoughts and actions reflect your image more and more. Amen
